Re: Best Films of the 21st Century
Its funny how opinions vary. This is onviously not every bodies list or taste. Its the average of a lot of critics. They clearly see more films than most of us. I've seen about half of these and dont like Mad Max or There will be Blood much. However, they are infinitely better films than many I have been unfortunate enough to see.
I would watch in the mood for love regularly and have watched Mulholand Drive many times. Mulholand Drive is probably my favourite film after The Big Lebowski.

Re: Best Films of the 21st Century
Well I thought I was a bit of a Film buff until I saw that list. Only seen 11 of them. Only two that I would see again and thought were great were Wolf of Wall Street and Zodiac. On the "see once and ok scale" I would put Memento, Children of Men, Hurt Locker, History of Violence, Zero Dark 30, Inception, Dark Knight, No Country For Old Men. On the crap scale I would have Mad Max although loved the original.

Many legendary screen actors built a career out of that sort of repeated screen presence. Nobody praised John Wayne or Clint Eastwood for their versatility.

Agree with the point made about the recent Mad Max - see the first half hour and you've pretty much seen all you need to. It is an exhilarating half hour though imo. It seems to be a problem with this list overall though, that it overrates newer films. I like Boyhood but it will not be remembered in 20 years time. I love the Coens but Inside Llewen Davis is inferior to their best films.

Couldn't agree more Dancer, it was absolute litter. Tom Hardy is the most overrated actor I've ever witnessed, he has a unique quality of being the same character regardless of the role he is supposed to be playing.

Re: Best Films of the 21st Century
Mad Max is one of the very few films that I downloaded to watch and turned off after 30 mins or so. Utter garbage.

Re: Best Films of the 21st Century
I've seen 67 of these. Quite a nice little project to see the remainder. I am terrible for watching films that I expect to be good - I feel like I have to be in the right mood, and any hint of tiredness it's hard to watch something worthy.

Mad Max features a crap story, rubbish dialogue and mediocre acting. It's also one of the most visually inventive films I've ever seen, although after the first 30 minutes there's not much new to see in it.

Re: Best Films of the 21st Century
Worked out I have seen just over half of these
The two that catch my eye are Memento which I love ...
& The Master which is an enormously tedious pile of poo
Am presuming PS Hoffman killed himself because of the embarrassment of that film

Not a single Lord of the Rings film?

Whether they are your thing or not for them not to be in that list tells you all you need to know.

Brasco: Ahoy there!
Schmidt; Yes?
Brasco: I said ahoy there!
Schmidt: Ahoy yourself
Brasco: John Brasco, Claire Wisconsin
Schmidt: Warren Schmidt, Omaha

About Schmidt (2002) should have been included. When these things are decided by committees, there is always something wrong.

Nice to see 25th Hour there but City Of God should be higher.

Certainly higher than most of the top 20
